Actually this is less about St. Louis and more about Illinois.
My church is in a small town in Illinois (a little over 35 minutes from my apartment). That means I get to drive over the Mississippi River at least once a week now. That, is pretty wild. I mean, I read about the Mighty Mississippi growing up as a kid. I was aware of it, but it was always part of this lost Americana dream. It was exotic and foreign - not something you'd pass over on your commute to w0rk. It's crazy to see it to frequently. It's pretty big.
Also, I think I've mentioned it before about St. Louis, but there is SO MUCH SKY in the Illinois. It's absurd how far you can see here. Everywhere you look there is sky. At night - SO many stars. It's just intimidating how much blue there is all around you. When I first was driving over there I got lost at one point (not knowing if I should turn right or left) and I simply slowed down and scanned the horizon and saw where I needed to go. It was wild.
Also, teenagers get their driving permits at age 15 here! 15! They can't get their official license until they are 16, but still. I really wouldn't trust myself to drive at 15. Freshmen in high school are all out on the roads here - I think that's madness.
