On Friday I lead the worship at our Large Group meeting.
It was a pretty wild expirence. Throughout the week I had to pick songs revelvent to the topic at hand, order then with considerations of making a natural flow and a proper set at musically and emotionally gelled together, assemble the music for it, assemble the musicans, rehearse, and then lead. I was up front, cueing people in, reading some scripture I picked inbetween some of the songs. I casted our vision for worship before hand, responded to the talk and all the while singing into the microphone. I've never really been gifted musically, especially not vocally, but God allowed me to do it without fear or worries because it was for His glory and not mine.
Here's an e-mail that went out a little while ago:
"Here's the big picture: This moving extravaganza will take place over
the course of three consecutive weekends! There are more than 20 staff
and student interns that are moving out and moving in, spanning almost
10 different locations. This will require one of the biggest teams of
volunteers ever assembled!"
I, and a lot of other people, volunteered to help and this Saturday was the first day of the move and all sorts of trucks and vans and rental trucks were all employed. In the morning I helped move one family and in the afternoon another soon to be wed staff worker. It was a lot of work, but moving someone is always fun, it's a communal taking part in a special moment in a person's life - like a barn raising but with less work.
Sunday started, like always, with Church. For the last few weeks I have been serving as a "Meeting Space Co-ordinator" for the Sunday services, arriving early to set up and staying late to clean. It's been a blast I've really enjoyed being able to help out in this way... it's very comfortable and manageable for me. Going through the book of 2nd Corinthians in church has been exciting and the small group discussions have been a great place to feel centered before each week.
Later Sunday night we all went to the "State College Spikes" game. It's a minor league baseball team that shares a (very nice) stadium with PSU's baseball team. It was an extordinarily fun time. Being in the stands all together really was a great evidence of the family like atmosphere that's been fostered this summer. It was an exciting game and it ended with a rather well done fireworks display. A great weekend had by all.
