After the spring semester ended I was tired, but there I felt an undeniable joy knowing that I wasn’t nearly as tired as I was at the end of my fall semester. I seriously made a good choice dropping my class load from the three year track to the four year track.
I had enough energy left to join some of my friends from classes to hike for five days on the Appalachian Trail only days after the semester ended!

Never have I subjected myself to such pain voluntarily. We did a lot of hiking and my (borrowed) back-pack restricted my airflow so I had trouble breathing whenever we went uphill (which was a lot) and my (borrowed) hiking shoes left my feet horribly blistered. Still, it was an amazing experience! I really enjoyed the time getting to know my friends better. I really enjoyed being able to traverse so much ground only by walking. I loved being surrounded by nature and even having to filter our drinking and cooking water from a stream. We worked our way through the gorgeous Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
It helped shake me from some “romantic” ideas I have about that adventuresome lifestyle, but it was terrific to feel the grace of God in allowing me to have such a wonderful experience without having to give me life over to that. It was a terrific week that I wouldn't trade for much anything!
