One Way and Slanted
Maybe this isn't exclusive to the mid-west, but I haven't been able to think of a time when I have been so confused just trying to park.
This map is actually a simplified version
I've made this map to help us try to understand this madness, but I can't come up with any redeeming value to this system. Not all, but many of the the parking lots (especially at grocery stores and the like) alternate one way lanes. I can understand how the slantedness helps you pull in easier, but why bog us down with all of this unnecessary maze work?
Needless to say, I've spent a lot of time accidentally going the wrong way in a one way parking lane, unable to pull into the spaces slanted in the wrong directions, causing a lot of weird looks, and a few angry faces.
