The second Greek classes seemed to end as soon as it began. 302 was great for several reasons:
1)A lot of what we were graded on was out of class work (translating 1st John) and class participation instead of tests and quizzes.
2) The tests we did have were awesome. Where 301 tested us on memory and rote "academic" stuff the tests for 302 were structured in the same way we study the Bible "Observation, Interpretation, Application." We first had to translate a passage and assemble them in proper syntax (O). We then were asked questions likes, "What is the tense of the verbs in verse 3 and how does that affect your interpretation?" "Is the author using the active voice or the passive voice and what difference does it make in your understanding of his message?"(I). Then finally we got asked questions like, "How can you use this text to minister to someone who claims to be a Christian but only wants it to be a personal thing and never worship with a church?" or "How does a knowledge of the Greek text of this passage help you counsel a person who is just learning the damaging affects that the false teachers from their old church has had on their relationships?"(A). It's been so cool! To see that I now possess a tangible skill that I didn't have before and to see how that skill has practical implications has been really exciting!
